Dear UA Rich Mountain Students, Faculty, Staff, and Families:

Hoping that each of you enjoyed a spectacular spring break and are energized to finish up your final seven weeks of this semester.  That’s right… just seven weeks, that will pass very quickly, which also has us looking ahead to plans for summer and fall semesters.

More than 13% of Arkansans have now been vaccinated. In addition, a significant number of our students have become eligible for vaccination with the opening of Phase 1-C recently.  All are welcomed signs of progress as we work together to protect ourselves and loved ones from this virus – which is incredibly exciting news!

Because of your diligence over the last year, we were fortunate to not have to fully transition to online or remote instruction as many other campuses had to, so – thank you. You wore your masks. You social distanced. You adapted and overcame in the classroom… all that was asked of you. You sacrificed by not getting to fully experience all of our student activities, events, and functions that enhance your overall college experience. And that’s why it is with a great deal of excitement that we are announcing fully resuming face-to-face in the fall, all while keeping a mindful eye on the recommended safety measures. In short, it means we can gather responsibly.

However, for now and for the remainder of the spring semester, we will maintain mask usage and social distancing while on any UARM property as recommended by the Center for Disease Control.  In essence, we will continue to function as we have since the beginning of the academic year.

I encourage you to stay diligent with respect to COVID as we are not completely out of the woods.  I take your safety seriously.  I know how dangerous this virus is.  Tragically, COVID took the life of my beloved mother and I would not want us to the let our guard down right now when the semester is nearly finished.

Phillip Wilson, Ed.D.
