Robby Burt joined the UA Rich Mountain family as a faculty member in 2010. As the Arts and Humanities Instructor, his responsibilities include teaching full-time general core humanities courses, coordinating campus “open mic” events and variety shows, and directing campus productions for children’s theatre and dinner theatre events.
His formal education accomplishments include completing high school at the Ft. Gibson High School in Oklahoma in 1983; receiving a B.A. in Speech and Theatre Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1988; M.A. in Theatre from Louisiana Tech University in 1990; and 60 hours in Theatre and Fine Arts at Texas Tech University from 2000-2006. He has held previous positions as professor and technical director directing plays at Louisiana Tech University, manager of the Center for the Performing Arts at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, professor and play director at Northeastern State University, and professional actor at Trail of Tears in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
“Teaching at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain gives the student and instructor a positive experience with the small class sizes”, stated Burt. He emphasized his philosophy of “always a student” by a quote from Jack Nicholson, “The minute that you’re not learning, I believe you are dead.”
Robby and his wife, Gini have five children. Their family enjoy all things related to the arts and spend a great deal of time with violin practice and recitals, participating in the local community theatre, visiting art museums, and attending the symphony. They also spend time hiking, camping, and rowing their canoe. His love of the theatre is evident on the College campus and in the local community theatre. He and his family have served as cast members in a number of shows and Robby had the opportunity to direct The Foreigner at the Ouachita Little Theatre in 2005. He is currently working as lighting director for Godspell that will be on the Ouachita Little Theatre spring production calendar.
